Use these CDs during the initial installationof your server to configure basic hardware features and to simplify your networkoperating system installation. (See “Using the ServerGuide CDs” for moreinformation.) The ServerGuide CDs also contain a collection of application programs,which you can install after your server is up and running.In addition to the ServerGuide CDs, you can use the following configurationprograms to customize your server hardware:• Configuration/Setup UtilityThe Configuration/Setup Utility program is part of the basic input/output system(BIOS) code that comes with your server. You can use this program to configureserial and parallel port assignments, change interrupt request (IRQ) settings,change the drive startup sequence, set the date and time, and set passwords.• SCSISelect UtilityWith the built-in SCSISelect Utility program, you can configure the devices thatare attached to the integrated SCSI controller. Use this program to change defaultvalues, and resolve configuration conflicts.• ServeRAID programsIf you install an optional ServeRAID adapter, you must use the ServeRAIDconfiguration program to define and configure your disk-array subsystem beforeyou install your operating system.Attention: Refer to the User’s Reference on the xSeries Documentation CD for moreinformation about using the configuration programs and ServerGuide CDs.Using the ServerGuide CDsThe ServerGuide CDs provide state-of-the-art programs to detect the server modeland hardware options that are installed, configure xSeries server hardware, providedevice drivers, and install your network operating system (NOS).Note: If the ServerGuide CD does not start, see “ServerGuide startup problems” onpage 25.1. Insert the Setup and Installation CD, and restart the server.2. Follow the instructions on the screens to:a. Select your language.b. Select your keyboard layout and country.c. View the Overview to learn about ServerGuide features.d. View the README file to review installation tips about your NOS andadapter.e. Start the setup and hardware configuration programs.f. Start the NOS installation. You will need your copy of the NOS CD.Note: For information on the supported NOS versions, refer to the Setup andInstallation CD label.
