Press the reset button to reset the server and run the power-on self-test (POST).You might have to use a pen or the end of a straightened paper clip to press thebutton.The server is designed so that LEDs remain lit when the server is connected to anac power source but is not turned on, provided that the power supply is operatingcorrectly. This feature helps you to isolate the problem when the operating systemis shut down.Diagnosing problems using light path diagnosticsLEDs in two locations on the server are available to help you diagnose problemsthat might occur during installation. Use them in the following order:1. Light path diagnostics panel – Look at this panel first. If a system error hasoccurred, the system-error LED on the front of the light path diagnostics draweris lit. Slide the latch to the left on the front of the light path diagnostics drawer toaccess the light path diagnostics panel. Note any LEDs that are lit, and thenclose the drawer.2. LEDs on the system board – To identify the component that is causing theerror, note the lit LED on or beside the component.Light path diagnostics LEDsFor a complete list of the LEDs on the light path diagnostics panel, the problemsthey indicate, and actions to solve the problems see “Light path diagnostics LEDs”on page 83.Recovering the BIOS codeIf the BIOS code has become damaged, such as from a power failure during a flashupdate, you can recover the BIOS code using the boot block jumper and a BIOSrecovery diskette.Note: You can obtain a BIOS recovery diskette from one of the following sources:v Use the ServerGuide Setup and Installation CD to make a BIOS recoverydiskette.v Download a BIOS recovery diskette from the World Wide Web. Go tohttp://www.ibm.com/pc/support/, click IBM Server Support, and make theselections for your server.v Contact your IBM service representative.The flash memory of your server contains a protected area that cannot beoverwritten. The recovery boot block is a section of code in this protected area thatenables the server to start up and to read a recovery diskette. The recovery utilityrecovers the system BIOS code from the BIOS recovery files on the diskette.Complete the following steps to recover the BIOS code:1. Turn off the server, and disconnect all power cords and external cables.2. Remove the server cover.
