4INTRODUCTIONCongratulations on your purchase ofthis JBL Performance™ Series AVA7power amplifier! You have purchased aproduct that embodies the best of whatJBL has learned about the emotionalpower of audio reproduction in morethan fifty years of preeminence in thefield. This amplifier has been designedand crafted to provide the user witha high level of sonic performance.Special attention has been paid to min-imizing the number of components inthe audio signal path, resulting inextremely low distortion, excellenttransient response, and wide dynamicrange. JBL products set new bench-marks in audio technology, and, whenused as part of a complete JBLPerformance Series system, will bringthe ambience and acoustics of some ofthe world’s greatest concert halls andtheaters into your home.To obtain the best performance from thisamplifier, please be sure to completelyread this user’s manual and use theAVA7 only in accordance with itsinstructions.FEATURESThe JBL Performance Series AVA7power amplifier features the following:Full Seven-Channel OperationThe AVA7 has been designed to inte-grate well into the world of multichan-nel audio. It is designed to reproducethe latest development in home theateraudio – rear channels, in addition toside channels – to produce a trulyenveloping sound field. When coupledwith a high-quality subwoofer amplifier,it is a solid foundation on which tobuild a high-performance home cinemasystem that will astound the listenerwith its power and realism.High Power CapabilityThe AVA7 provides a satisfying 125watts per channel of distortion-freeaudio (<0.01% THD) into 8 ohms.Because of their power capabilities,JBL Performance Series amplifiers havean extremely wide dynamic range, anelement critical to realistic home cinema.Sound levels equal to those at originalperformances are easily re-created ineven the largest of home listeningenvironments.Auto Turn-On and Power-SequencingCircuitryWhen used in a JBL PerformanceSystem, the AVA7 can be turned onautomatically whenever the surroundprocessor is activated. No longer doyou have to get out of that chair to turnon the various pieces of equipment inyour entertainment system; just onetouch on the remote control of the sur-round processor, and you’re a few sec-onds away from a truly impressiveaudio presentation!Modern amplifiers produce morepower per channel (and frequentlyhave more channels) than those of thetraditional two-channel stereo era. Dueto the high current demands of poweramplifiers at the instant of turn-on,the AVA7 amplifier is equipped witha power-sequencing circuit thatturns on each amplifier in a delayedsequence, avoiding the large instanta-neous current demand (and possiblecircuit breaker tripping) that may occurshould more than one amplifier turn onat the same instant.Quiet CoolingThe AVA7 utilizes two fans to cool theamplifier channels, ensuring long-termreliability. To reduce fan noise to anabsolute minimum, a thermal-sensingand control circuit, which sensesincreases in temperature within theamplifier and powers the fans at aspeed proportional to that temperatureincrease, has been incorporated in theJBL Performance Series AVA7. As aresult, the fan is never turning fasterthan necessary, and most of the noisethat is generated is masked by the pro-gram being listened to.Comprehensive and Isolated CircuitProtectionThe AVA7 amplifier employs sophisti-cated protection circuitry (one for eachchannel) that senses many possible faultconditions, such as shorted loudspeakerwires or excess power demand, andturns the affected channel(s) off untilthe fault condition is removed, at whichtime normal operation is automaticallyrestored. While protection of this sort isnot uncommon in today’s well-designedamplifiers, a remarkable feature of theJBL Performance AVA7’s protection cir-cuits is that they are optically coupledto the signal circuit; there is no directelectrical connection between the sig-nal path and the protection circuitry. Asa result, there can be no coloration ofthe music, no interaction between pro-tection and amplification, until certainthresholds are exceeded, at whichpoint the channel(s) would turn offcompletely.INTRODUCTION AND FEATURES |
