1. Power SwitchPushing this button is all that is requiredto turn on the AVA7 if it is not part of aJBL Performance Series system andthe Main Switch § is in the On posi-tion. If the amplifier is used as part of aJBL Performance Series system, theMain Switch § and the front-panelpush button Power Switch ¡ shouldboth be left in the On position. Theamplifier will then turn on when thesurround processor is activated. Seethe descriptions of the Main Switch §and Trigger Jacks ¶ for more informa-tion on turning on the AVA7.2. Standby IndicatorThis indicator on the front-panel PowerSwitch ¡ will glow red when theamplifier is in the “standby” mode, whether operating as part of a JBLPerformance Series system or not. When the AVA7 is in the “on” mode, this light will turn blue.3. Input Jacks (Ch. 1 Through Ch. 7)Seven of the output signals from theJBL Performance Series AV1 digitalprocessor are connected to the seveninput jacks. We suggest the channelsbe assigned as follows:Ch. 1 Right RearCh. 2 Right SideCh. 3 Right FrontCh. 4 CenterCh. 5 Left FrontCh. 6 Left SideCh. 7 Left Rear4. Speaker TerminalsConnect the speakers to these termi-nals, following the normal convention;wire the “+” side of the speaker to thered terminal, and the “–” side to theblack terminal. Wire the speakerswith the proper polarity; reversing anyspeaker’s connections will not damageeither the speaker or the amplifier, butwill result in poor low-frequency per-formance and imprecise imaging.WARNING: Terminals marked with theflash symbol are hazardous when live.External wiring connected to those ter-minals requires installation by trainedpersonnel, and the use of ready-madelead cords.NOTE: The minimum load impedancethat this amplifier can handle safely is 8ohms per channel. Using lower imped-ance loads can damage the unit andwill void your warranty!Wire Run Length Minimum GaugeUp to 20' (6m) 16Up to 50' (15m) 14Up to 100' (30m) 125. External FusesThe AC mains fuse is located on theback panel of the amplifier. This fusewill not blow unless the amplifier isasked to produce more power than itsdesign allows for a prolonged period orto prevent excessive current draw thatcould damage internal componentsduring a fault condition. The amplifierhas been designed to operate undervirtually all conditions. Even momentaryshort-circuiting of the output (speaker)connections will not ordinarily damagethe output circuitry (although this willactivate internal protection circuitryand could cause one or more of thechannels to temporarily mute until thecircuit automatically resets).Fuse ReplacementTo remove the fuse, turn off the powerswitch and disconnect the power plugfrom the AC mains. Remove the fuseholder by lifting up the latch at thebottom and pulling the holder out. When looking at the fuse holder asinstalled on the back panel, the fuse onthe right hand side is the active fuse. The fuse on the left is a spare. Removethe fuse on the right side and visuallyinspect it to see whether it has opened;if it has, discard it and replace it withthe spare glass fuse. Reinstall theholder, and reconnect the AC mains. If after replacing the fuse the unit isinoperative, service is required; contactyour JBL dealer.WARNING: Always unplug theamplifier from the AC mainsbefore removing any fuse.IMPORTANT:Never install a fuse that has ahigher rating than the one specified onthe back panel of the amplifier or in theowner’s manual.6. Main SwitchPlace this switch in the On position atall times during normal use.7. Trigger Input and Output JacksWhen using the AVA7 amplifier in a JBLPerformance Series system with theAV1 Digital Surround Processor, youwill need to use the trigger cable setincluded with the AV1. Connect the DINend of the cable to the Trigger OutputDIN jack on the rear panel of the AV1,and connect the 1/8" (3.5mm) plug tothe Trigger Input Jack ¶ on the rearpanel of the AVA7.5¡™OPERATION AND CONTROLS |
