17ADVANCED FEATURESDual Alarms and Timer RecordingAlarm and Timer SettingJBL Soundgear offers a flexible dual alarm andtimer capability, which allows you to programthe system to either play or record two differentsources at two different times, for as long aduration as you choose.1. Make sure the current time displayed c iscorrect by pressing the Clock button ™; seethe Setting the Clock section of this manual onp. 10 to set the clock correctly. If you plan onselecting the Tuner, make sure that the desiredstation has been programmed as a preset (seeProgramming Preset Stations section on p. 12).2. Press the Alarm 1 £ or Alarm 2 ¢ buttonto enter the timer setting mode. (If the timerwas previously set, press and hold the buttonfor more than 1.5 seconds.) The Alarm/Timerclockface indicator will appear in the displayw and the available source selections –TUNER, CD, TAPE – will flash in the displayin turn.3. (a) If you want to select the Tuner, pressthe Set/Station button ∞ while TUNERappears in the display window c. “Play”and “Rec” will flash in turn.(b) Press the Set/Station button ∞ toselect either Play or Rec.• Play: Tuner plays only• Rec: Tuner plays and is recorded byDeck B. Make sure that a blank cassette isloaded in Deck B and rewound to its beginningor desired starting point.(c) Press the Preset Down or Up buttoncg4 to select a desired radio station. If noPreset stations have been programmed intomemory, JBL Soundgear will default to the lasttuned station.(d) Press the Set/Station button ∞ toenter the selected preset number.4. If you wish to select a CD or Tape, pressthe Set/Station button ∞ while CD or TAPEappears in the display window c.If you have selected CD, or Tape A, “PLAY” and“REC” will flash alternately in the display c.Press the Set/Station button ∞ to selecteither PLAY or REC. If you choose to make arecording, make sure that a blank cassette isloaded in Deck B and rewound to its beginningor desired starting point.5. Set the hour by pressing the Preset Down orUp buttons cg4.6. Press the Set/Station button ∞ to enter thehour the alarm will turn the selected source on.The minutes will flash c.7. Set the minutes by pressing the PresetDown or Up buttons cg4.8. Press the Set/Station button ∞ to enter theminutes. “OFF” will flash in the display c,and the menu will now guide you through set-ting the time the system will turn off.9. Program the time to turn off in the same wayas the time to turn on, by using the PresetDown or Up buttons cg4 to select the houror minute, and the Set/Station button ∞ toenter the setting.10. Set the volume level by pressing the PresetDown or Up buttons cg4.11. Press the Set/Station button ∞ to enterthe selected volume level. The clockface and theAlarm number (1 or 2) will remain lit in the dis-play w, and the alarm will be set and armed.12. When you turn the power off ¡1, JBLSoundgear will automatically turn itself on atthe programmed time and play and/or record theselected source for as long as it has been pro-grammed to play.To Cancel orCheck the Timer:Each time the Alarm 1 £ or Alarm 2 ¢ but-ton is pressed you can arm or disarm that alarm.If the alarm was previously set, press the button£¢ twice to display the alarm settings. Pressit once to disarm the alarm, but retain any set-tings in memory. When the alarm is armed, theclockface and alarm number (1 or 2) indicatorswill light in the display w as will the REC indi-cator x if applicable. When the alarm is dis-armed, the indicators will go out.Alarm and Timer Notes1. The Alarm indicator w will flash when theunit is playing in Alarm mode. Press the Alarmbutton £¢ to defeat the alarm, which will notshut the unit off.2. When CD or Tape is selected for playback, ifno disc is in the disc drawer or no cassette tapeis in the cassette deck, the Tuner function willturn on instead.3. When CD is selected for playback, RepeatAll Disc will be selected automatically.4. When TAPE is selected for playback, if bothcassette decks have cassette tapes; the cas-sette tape in Deck B will play first.5. If the unit is turned on manually, it will notshut off automatically at the programmed turn-off time.6. If both Alarm 1 and Alarm 2 are set, and theirtimes do not overlap – that is, the earlier alarmis programmed to turn off before the later alarmwill turn on – then both alarms will turn the uniton and off as programmed.7. If the settings of the timers overlap, thenJBL Soundgear will turn on at the earliest setturn-on time and play continuously until thelater turn-off time. It will only play the sourcethat was selected for the earlier timer, and willnot play the source that was selected for thelater timer.Setting theSleep Timer(Available only using the remote control)When the sleep timer is used, the power isautomatically turned off after the specified timehas elapsed.1. To specify the time until the power is turnedoff, press the Sleep button $. “SLEEP 90” willappear in the display c for about 5 seconds.This means that the unit will turn off automati-cally after 90 minutes. Each time the Sleep but-ton $ is pressed while the SLEEP displayappears, the time interval before the unit willturn off is reduced by 10 minutes (e.g., 80...70...).Select the desired time interval before turn-off.2. To check the remaining time until the poweris turned off, while the sleep function is active,press the Sleep button $ briefly. The timeremaining until turn-off is displayed for about 5seconds.Note: If you press the Sleep button $ whilethe sleep time is displayed, the SLEEP timer willreduce the time until turn-off.3.
