shaper cutter, turn the spindle assembly byhand to verify that it turns freely.Changing Spindle SpeedThe JWS-35X Shaper is equipped with pulleysthat allow you to change the spindle speed. Thebelt placed on the upper pulleys as shown inposition B (Fig. 16) provides a 10,000 RPMspindle speed. Spindle speed for all belt positionsare listed in Table 2 below.*Belt Position Spindle SpeedB 10,000 RPMC 8,000 RPMD 6,000 RPME 4,000 RPM* Refer to Figure 14Table 2To change speed (refer to Figure 16):1. Disconnect the machine from the powersource.2. Open the door of the cabinet.3. Remove the belt tension by moving the belttension handle (A) to the unlock position. Thisallows the motor (G) to swivel on its mountinghinge.4. Move the drive belt (shown in the B position)to the C, D, or E positions for the spindlespeed desired as determined in Table 2.5. Lock the belt tension handle (A) whichsecures the motor (G) and places tension onthe drive belt (K).Belt ReplacementReferring to Figure 16:Replace the drive belt (K) as follows:1. Disconnect the machine from the powersource.2. Open the door of the cabinet.3. Remove the belt tension by moving the belttension handle (A) to the unlock position. Thisallows the motor (G) to swivel on its mountinghinge.Figure 16Drive Belt TensionReferring to Figure 16:The drive belt should have sufficient tension toprevent slippage when the machine is inoperation. If the tension on the belt needsadjustment:1. Disconnect the machine from the powersource.2. Open the door of the cabinet.3. Locate the belt tension assembly (F) andloosen the lock nut (H, inset) with a 17mmwrench.4. Adjust the hex bushing (J) with a 17mmwrench (refer to inset for adjustmentdirection) for proper tension on the belt (B).The tension handle (A) must be in the lockedposition (right) while performing this step.Note: Two 17mm wrenches are required for thenext step.5. Maintain the position of the hex bushing (J)with one wrench while tightening the locknut (H) with the other.17
