2 Operation and FeaturesGPIB Interface Reference56 E364xA User’s and Service GuideGPIB Interface ReferenceThe GPIB connector on the rear panel connects your powersupply to the computer and other GPIB devices. Chapter 1,“Accessories” lists the cables that are available fromKeysight. A GPIB system can be connected together in anyconfiguration (star, linear, or both) as long as the followingrules are observed:Each device on the GPIB (IEEE- 488) interface must have aunique address. You can set the power supply’s address toany value between 0 and 30. The address is set to 5 whenthe power supply is shipped from the factory. The GPIBaddress is displayed at power- on.You can set the GPIB address from the front panel only.• The address is stored in the non- volatile memory, anddoes not change when power has been turned off or aftera power- on reset (*RST command).• Your computer's GPIB interface card has its own address.Avoid using the computer's address for any instrument onthe interface bus. Keysight GPIB interface cards generallyuse address 21.• The total number of devices including the computer is notmore than 15.• The total length of all the cables used is not more than2 m times the number of devices connected together, upto a maximum of 20 m.• Do not stack more than three connector blocks togetheron any GPIB connector. Make sure that all connectors arefully seated and that the lock screws are firmly fingertightened.Refer to “Configuring the Remote Interface” on page 42 formore information on configuring the power supply forremote interface operations from the front panel.NOTE IEEE-488 states that you should exercise caution if your individual cablelengths exceed 4 m.
