80FILLING PROPANE TANKAll new propane tanks must be purged of air andmoisture before filling for the first time. The propanetanks should be filled according to the instructions onthe tank safety labels.Filling should be done only at authorized propanefueling stations. Please observe the following instruc-tions when filling the storage tanks.D.O.T. regulation #173-34 prohibits propane tanksfrom being refilled inside the RV. The tank(s) mustbe removed from the compartment to be properlyinspected before refilling.Use propane tanks in their proper position.1. A small amount of anhydrous methanol (3/4oz per 5 gal) can be added before filling anempty tank to prevent freeze ups. Check withyour propane dealer or the propane tankmanufacturer’s information in the Owner’sInformation Package provided with your trailer.2. The law requires at least a 20% vapor space forsafety. A special liquid level valve is installed inthe tank to indicate when the tank has reached80% of it volume as liquid propane. Stop fillingwhen liquid appears at this valve.3. Use vapor only. All propane appliances forcooking, heating, lighting, water heating andrefrigeration are designed to operate on propanevapor only. Therefore, all propane tanks designedfor vapor service must be transported, installedand used in the proper position. Propanecontainers are permanently marked with“TOP” stamped on tank, welded to the tank or“ARROWS must point up” stamped in the guardor bracket to identify the proper position.4. Do not transport, install or use a vertical cylinderin a horizontal or upside down position. Neveruse a horizontal cylinder or tank on its improperside. Liquid propane could enter systemsdesigned for vapor only, creating a hazardouscondition.5. Do not carry or store filled or empty propanecontainers inside your trailer. Propane containersare equipped with a safety device that relievesexcessive pressure by discharging gas to theatmosphere. Leaks can occur at valves andfittings. Always store propane tanks with thevalves closed.6. Always use the dust cap when transporting orstoring disconnected tanks (full or empty).7. All propane tanks must be securely attachedin the proper position for intended use. Use allbrackets provided to ensure proper support andpositioning.8. Route all propane lines carefully and avoidskinking the lines. A kinked hose can limit orcutoff the flow of propane through the system. Fully open and seat valve byhand only to prevent leakage past the valve stem. Ifan odor seems to linger perform a leak test.Keep outlet valves closed when not using the pro-pane system.Do not attempt to adjust the regulator. The manu-facturer has preset it. If any adjustment is required,a qualified propane service technician using specialequipment must make it.NOTE: The Owner’s Information Package contains ahelpful hints pamphlet about propane containers.Dual propane tanks are equipped with a two-stageautomatic changeover regulator, which transfers pro-pane demand automatically to the second tank whenthe first tank becomes empty. For proper operation, both outlet valves must beopened. Turn or slide the tank selector knob so itpoints to the tank you wish to provide service. A smallglass window is located on the regulator. A clear orgreen band will appear in the window indicating thatpressure is in the line from the tank. After all propaneis used from that tank, the regulator will automaticallyswitch service to the other tank, and a red band willshow in the window, with the arrow or slide pointingto the empty tank.
