NEVER DEFEAT OR REMOVE THE BLADEGUARD OR THE SPRING WHICH ATTACHES TO THEGUARD.In the interest of your personal safety, always maintainthe blade guard in good condition. Any irregularoperation of the blade guard should be correctedimmediately. Check to assure spring loaded returnaction of guard. NEVER USE THE TOOL IF THEBLADE GUARD OR SPRING ARE DAMAGED, FAULTYOR REMOVED. DOING SO IS HIGHLY DANGEROUSAND CAN CAUSE SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY.If the see-through blade guard becomes dirty, orsawdust adheres to it in such a way that the bladeand/or workpiece is no longer easily visible, unplug thesaw and clean the guard carefully with a damp cloth. Donot use solvents or any petroleum-based cleaners onthe plastic guard.If the blade guard is especially dirty and vision throughthe guard is impaired, use the supplied socket wrench toloosen the hex bolt holding the center cover. Loosen thehex bolt by turning it counterclockwise and raise theblade guard and center cover. With the blade guard sopositioned, cleaning can be more completely andefficiently accomplished. When cleaning is complete,reverse procedure above and secure bolt. Do notremove spring holding blade guard. If guard becomesdiscolored through age or UV light exposure, contact aMakita service center for a new guard. The kerfboards are factory adjusted so that the saw blade doesnot contact the kerf boards. Before use, adjust the kerfboards as follows:First, unplug the tool. Loosen all the screws (2 each onleft and right) securing the kerf boards. Re-tighten themonly to the extent that the kerf boards can still be easilymoved by hand. Lower the handle fully and push in thestopper pin to lock the handle in the lowered position.Loosen the knob which secures the slide poles. Pull thecarriage toward you fully. Adjust the kerf boards so thatthe kerf boards just contact the sides of the blade teeth.Tighten the front screws (do not tighten firmly). Push thecarriage toward the guide fence fully and adjust the kerfboards so that the kerf boards just contact the sides ofblade teeth. Tighten the rear screws (do not tightenfirmly).After adjusting the kerf boards, release the stopper pinand raise the handle. Then tighten all the screwssecurely.1. Saw blade2. Blade teeth3.
