BATTERYYour authorized Malibu dealer can check to see that the battery(ies) appear to be holding charge properly. Unless a battery hasfully expended its life cycle, it’s impossible to guarantee that the battery will continue to serve, but experience helps the dealer toanticipate whether there is still service to be expected from the battery. When it is necessary to replace a battery, be certain to select a marine-grade battery with at least seven-hundred-fifty (750) coldcranking amps (cca) at zero degrees (0o) Fahrenheit. Spiral cell batteries are superior in holding charges and extending the period ofavailable usage.PUMPSThe authorized Malibu dealer can inspect and repair/replace ballast and bilgepumps that are not functioning properly. This is both a safety matter and adds tothe life of the boat’s systems. All pumps will lose functionality over time as theinternal components are designed to be self-sacrificing during use, rather thanallowing debris to foul and damage more expensive and complex components ofthese systems. Insist upon pump evaluations during annual maintenance.FUEL SYSTEMAn authorized Malibu dealer will replace the fuel filter when performing annualmaintenance. This is important. Debris and water may enter the fuel system, evenwith the careful protection of the system. Periodic replacement of the fuel filter isrequired to protect the fuel pump and provide the proper fuel pressure to the engine.OIL SYSTEMReplacing the oil filter and oil is an important part of the annual maintenance.Be certain your authorized Malibu dealer completes this step.CHECK THE SAFETY EQUIPMENTIf you have not done so previously, check the fire extinguishers and personalflotation devices. Check the condition of (and replace as necessary) drain plugs, bilge pumps, and exhaust flaps. Repair or replace anything that appears damaged orincapable of performing its function.POWER WEDGE AND SURF GATE MANUAL EXTENSION AND RETRACTIONFor boats equipped with these optional features, it is important for the authorizedMalibu dealer to verify the manual extension and retraction function is operational, incase the consumer ever has to perform this due to the failure of the automated systemcontrolled through the video screen. For the Power Wedge, using a small (stubby) straight screwdriver, loosen a smallred screw on top until it stops. Lift or lower the wedge to the position desired and thentighten the screw snugly (but do no over-tighten). Manually cycle the wedge a coupleof times after doing to ensure that the screw is snug and the wedge moves correctly. For the Surf Gate, there is a red hex bolt on th side of the actuator. Opening thisvalve with a 3/8” wrench will allow the Surf Gate to be moved into a closed positionBe sure to retighten the bolt to prevent it frm drifing open while operation the boat.SALT WATER BOATSBoats that are operated in salt water should be checked at least weekly for signs ofdeterioration to components. Salt water is especially hard on metal, but can damagealmost any material. Pay close attention to hardware. Malibu recommends that youthoroughly clean all metal hardware after any outing in salt water to keep it lookingand performing well. A coating of wax on the hardware will also help preserve thefinish for years to come.Hardware on boats that are exposed to salt water candeteriorate at a more rapid rate than hardware on boats thatoperate in fresh water. Hardware that fails can cause othercomponents to fail, resulting in significant damage to the boat, which can cause serious injury or death.Malibu Owners Manual • 2018 • Care and Maintenance • Page 7-13
