Ice Machine Operation Section 33-4 Part Number 000002477 3/08Ice Making Sequence of OperationINITIAL START-UP OR START-UP AFTERAUTOMATIC SHUT-OFF1. Water PurgeBefore the compressor starts, the water pump and waterdump solenoid are energized for 45 seconds, tocompletely purge the ice machine of old water. Thisfeature ensures that the ice making cycle starts withfresh water. The harvest valve and air compressor (when used) arealso energized during water purge, although they stayon for an additional 5 seconds (50 seconds total on time)during the initial refrigeration system start-up.2. Refrigeration System Start-UpIce Machine Head Section: The liquid line solenoidvalve energizes after the 45 second water purge, andremains on throughout the entire Freeze and HarvestSequences. The harvest valve and air compressor(when used) remains on for 5 seconds during initialcompressor start-up and then shuts off.The water fill valve is energized at the same time as theliquid line solenoid valve.CVD Condensing Unit: When the refrigerant pressureis high enough to close the low-pressure control, (afterthe harvest valve energizes in step 1) the contactor coilis energized and the compressor starts. The compressorand fan cycling control* are supplied with powerthroughout the entire Freeze and Harvest Sequences. When the refrigerant pressure is high enough to closethe fan cycling pressure control the condenser fan motorstarts.*The IB0600C & S0600C ice machines do not use afan cycling control. The compressor and thecondenser fan motor are wired through the contactor.Any time the contactor coil is energized, thesecomponents are supplied with power.FREEZE SEQUENCE3. PrechillThe compressor is on for 30 seconds (60 seconds initialcycle) prior to water flow, to prechill the evaporator. Thewater fill valve remains on until the water level probe issatisfied.4. FreezeThe water pump restarts after the prechill. An even flowof water is directed across the evaporator and into eachcube cell, where it freezes. The water fill valve will cycleon and then off one more time to refill the water trough. When sufficient ice has formed, the water flow (not theice) contacts the ice thickness probe. Afterapproximately 10 seconds of continual water contact, the harvest sequence is initiated. The ice machinecannot initiate a harvest sequence until a 6 minutefreeze lock has been surpassed.
