Connecting BlocksDS2000 Hardware Manual Section 2: PCB Installation 2-92Connecting BlocksWorking With 8-Pin JacksThe system uses 8-pin mod jacks to connect extensions, trunks and optional equipment. Using the InstallationCable (P/N 80892) makes it easy to connect the PCBs to standard 66M1-50 connecting blocks. These cableshave six 8-pin modular jacks on one end and are unterminated on the other. In general, each cabinet needs: One 66M1-50 block and Installation Cable (P/N 80892) for extensions and optional equipment. One 66M1-50 block and Installation Cable (P/N 80892) for trunks. Depending on your PCB configuration and local codes, you may need an additional 66M1-50 blockand Installation Cable (P/N 80892) for optional equipment.Punching Down the CablesThe Installation Cables have six 8-pin jacks installed on one end and are unterminated on the other. Each8-pin jack connects 4 extensions or 4 trunks. To punch down the cables (Figure 2-12) through (Figure 2-15):1. For each 66M1-50 block, punch down the Installation Cable in standard color-code order.- Use Figure 2-12 Connecting Extensions on page 2-10 when connecting extensions.- Use Figure 2-13 Connecting Trunks on page 2-11 when connecting trunks.2. After you have punched down your cables, route them through the side of the cabinet and secure themwith the strain relief (Figure 2-14 Securing the Cables on page 2-12).Making Your Own CablesIf you want to make your cables (instead of using Installation Cable P/N 80892), follow the pinouts inFigure 2-15 8-Pin (RJ61X) Jack Pinouts on page 2-13.
