4-2 Maintenance and TroubleshootingIntroductionThis chapter provides information on maintaining your DAU. This chapter also helpsyou identify and solve problems that may occur during initial installation of the DAU orwhile using your DAU.Static PrecautionsAn electrostatic discharge (ESD) can damage disk drives, option boards, and othercomponents. You can provide some ESD protection by wearing an antistatic wrist strapattached to chassis ground when handling system components.Electronic devices can be easily damaged by static electricity. To prevent damage, keepthem in their protective packaging when they are not installed in your system.Routine MaintenanceMaintenance is the key to obtaining trouble-free operation of your DAU. To keep yourDAU operating flawlessly proper care and maintenance checks must be performedperiodically. For proper care of the DAU, refer to the "Cleaning" subsection thatfollows.It is also recommended that you make backup copies of your valuable data stored inhard disks of the DAU on a regular basis. Also, inspect all cabling and replace anydamaged cables connected to the DAU.CleaningThe DAU requires cleaning on a regular basis and especially if operating in a dustyenvironment.! WARNINGBefore doing the procedures in this manual, make sure that yourDAU is powered off and unplug the AC power cords from the back ofthe chassis. Failure to disconnect power from your DAU can result inpersonal injury and equipment damage.! CAUTIONDo Not use volatile solvents such as paint thinner and benzene toclean your DAU. These chemicals can damage the surface and colorof the DAU external surfaces.The interior of the DAU and all the power receptacles, cables, andconnectors on its rear panel must be kept dry.
