2-14 Setup and OperationNOTEYou only need to update the BIOS ifNEC makes significant improvements or fixes tothe current system BIOS.If you determine that the default BIOS needs an upgrade, to receive a copy of the BUDcontact the NECCSD Versa Diskette Fulfillment Center at (800) 842-6446, or theNECCSD Customer Service and Support (800) 632-4525, Fax (508) 635-4666, or theNECCSD Bulletin Board (508) 635-4706.NOTEYou should only use the BIOS upgradediskette for the specific model.POWER-ON SELF-TEST (POST)Each time the system is powered on, the system checks the working status of componentsthrough an automatic power-on self-test (POST). The test checks the system configurationfor any discrepancies.If the message is an Invalid Configuration message, press Esc to enter the Setup util-ity. The system collects Setup data and lists the changes detected in the current parametersettings. While in Setup, follow the on-screen instructions to review the settings, and makeany necessary corrections.If no error messages appear but the system still malfunctions, check the items in the follow-ing list. The power switch for each peripheral is on. All cables and power cords are tightly connected. The electrical outlet is working. The brightness and contrast controls for the display are adjusted properly. All options are properly installed.NOTEIf the system parameters (date, time, op-tions, etc.) were not been entered for the presentconfiguration, enter them when you complete thesetup procedures (see “System Parameters” inthis section).
