5-2 Using MultimediaThe following procedure describes how to use the AudioRack or AudioRack32 software to record sound into a file on the NEC Versa. (You can also usethe Microsoft Sound Recorder. Look in Accessories for the Multimediagroup and select “Sound Recorder.”)1. To record from an external device such as a portable tape player, youneed a cable with audio jacks on both ends. Set up your hardware asfollows: Connect one end of the audio cable to the Line Out jack on the exter-nal device. (On some devices, you can record from the headphonesport.) Connect the other end of the cable to the Line In port on the NECVersa. (You can also use the microphone port to record monauralsound.)To record from the internal CD-ROM or from file, start with step 2.2. From Window for Workgroups, open the AudioRack program group andstart the AudioRack program (in Windows 95 and Windows NT, this iscalled AudioRack32). The AudioRack control panel (similar to the fol-lowing) appears on your screen.The control panel provides six different panels for Windows 95 andWindows NT. Windows for Workgroups provides five panels. (If yourcontrol panel offers fewer, simply press the device buttons next to thepower button. The missing panels will appear.) These panels include thefollowing: The top three (Windows for Workgroups) or top four control power(power panel), stereo mixing (3D-Stereo panel) (Windows 95 andWindows NT), volume control (Mixer panel), and recording (DATpanel).
