26sA Formatting Memory CardsIf this is the first time the memory cardwill be used in the camera or if the cardhas been formatted in another device,select Format memory card in the setupmenu and follow the on-screen instruc-tions to format the card (0 211). Note thatthis permanently deletes any data the cardmay contain. Be sure to copy any photo-graphs and other data you wish to keepto a computer before proceeding.A Removing Memory CardsTurn the camera off and confirm that thememory card access lamp is off, thenopen the memory card slot/connectorcover and press the card in to eject it (q).The card can then be removed by hand(w). Care should be taken to prevent thecard popping from the camera whenejected.D Memory Cards• Do not remove memory cards from the camera, turn the cameraoff, or remove or disconnect the power source during formattingor while data are being recorded, deleted, or copied to a com-puter. Failure to observe these precautions could result in loss ofdata or in damage to the camera or card.• Do not touch the card terminals with your fingers or metal objects.• Do not bend, drop, or subject to strong physical shocks.• Do not apply force to the card casing. Failure to observe this pre-caution could damage the card.• Do not expose to water, heat, high levels of humidity, or directsunlight.• Do not format memory cards in a computer.
