133Chapter 21 Edit MenuCache SettingsThe Cache functionality enables NEFimages that were previously openedwithin Capture NX to open morequickly. Capture NX provides you withdifferent options to control how NEFimages are cached, as well as howmuch hard disk space is dedicated tothe cache files.While the Cache functionality isenabled, saving an NEF file willautomatically create a cache file in thefolder indicated within this tab of thepreferences. This cache file containsinformation that Capture NX can use togreatly accelerate the opening of thisfile in the future.With the default settings, Capture NXwill utilize up to 2 gigabytes of harddisk space to store cache files. If all 2gigabytes of allocated space are utilizedby cache files, Capture NX will begin toreplace the oldest cache files with newcache files. In this manner, the files youinteracted with most recently will openthe fastest. It is important to note thatno unique information is stored withinthese cache files, and if a cache file isreplaced, your image file will not loseany information or quality. It will simplyrequire additional processing in order toopen, which will take additional time.You can alter the cache settings tochange when cache files are created,where the cache files are placed, andhow much hard disk space should beutilized for these cache files.USE IMAGE CACHECheck this box to enable Capture NX toutilize cache files to increase the speedof opening NEF files.Cache Files Saved Within the EditorCheck this box to enable Capture NXto cache files that are saved within theEditor.Cache Files Created in a Batch ProcessCheck this box to enable Capture NX tocache files whenever a batch process isused, either within the Editor or withinthe Browser. This includes both BatchProcesses and Watched Folders.CLEAR CACHEClick on this button to delete all cachefiles created by Capture NX.CACHE LOCATIONClick on the Browse button to select anew location to place the cache files.
