50Shooting FeaturesSmart Portrait Mode (Shooting Smiling Faces)If the camera detects smiling faces, the shutter isautomatically released without pressing the shutter-release button (Smile timer). The skin softeningfunction (A52 ) makes facial skin tones softer.1 Frame the picture and wait for the subject tosmile.• When the camera detects a human face, a yellow doubleborder (focus area) is displayed around that face. Whenthe camera has focused on that face, the double borderwill light in green for a moment and focus is locked.• Up to three faces can be detected. When more thanone face is detected, the face closest to the center of the frame is framed by a doubleborder and the others by single borders.• If the camera detects that the face framed by the double border is smiling, the Smiletimer (A51) feature is activated and the shutter is automatically released.• Each time the shutter is released, automatic shooting using face detection and smiledetection is repeated.2 Shooting ends.• To finish automatic shooting of smile detection, perform any of the following operations.- Turn off the camera.- Set the Smile timer to Off.- Rotate the mode dial to switch to a shooting mode other than F (Smart portrait) mode.B \Notes on Smart Portrait Mode• The digital zoom is not available.• Under some shooting conditions, faces and smiling faces may not be detected properly.• See “Notes on Face Detection” (A75) for more information.C Auto Off in Smile Timer ModeWhen using the Smile timer, the auto off function (A101) is activated and the camera turns offwhen either of the situations indicated below persists and no other operations are performed.• The camera does not detect any faces.• The camera detected a face, but cannot detect a smile.C When the Self-timer Lamp FlashesWhen the camera detects a face, the self-timer lamp flashes.
