3130Hold Camera and Focus3Lightly pressing the shutter release button automatically focuses thecamera on the subject and when the subject is in focus, causes / toappear in the viewfinder.1 Hold the camera properly.• Keep your elbow propped against yourbody for support.• Stand with one foot forward a half step andkeep your upper body still.• Grasp the camera handgrip with your righthand and use your left hand to cradle thecamera (or lens).NOTE: Camera shakeCamera shake is likely to occur when the camera is not held steady or with slowshutter speed. The Speedlight automatically fires in dark conditions (where slowshutter speed is required) in a or Vari-Program with this camera but alwaysremember to hold the camera correctly.2 Compose frame, centre focusbrackets on your subject, andfocus by lightly pressing theshutter release button.• Compose frame so that the subject to befocused is located closest at any of fivefocus areas and lightly press the shutterrelease button. When the Dynamic AFMode with Closest-Subject Priority (page26, 46) is set, camera automaticallymaintains focus on the subject locatedclosest to any of five focus areas.NOTE: Composing frameThis camera’s viewfinder frame shows approximately 89% of the image actuallyexposed on the film frame. Therefore, the actual exposed frame is somewhatlarger than the image you see through the viewfinder. Note that the edges of anegative film are partially cropped by most labs.Built-in SpeedlightWhen the subject is dark or backlit (except in d org) and the shutter release button is lightly pressed,the built-in Speedlight automatically pops up in a(AUTO mode) or Vari-Program (s, d, f, g, h).
