IntroductionThe Nokia 3310 (GSM) comesequipped the latest codec and audiotechnology for superior sound andvoice quality.Currently, there are three differentcodecs defined for GSM/PCN:• full-rate (FR)• enhanced full-rate (EFR)• half-rate (HR)The Nokia 3310 phone can support allthese codecs.The FR codec is supported by all GSMand PCN cellular networks andphones.The network automatically selectswhich codec is used, FR or EFR (ifsupported by the network).The Nokia phone supplied within thissales package has the EFR codecactivated to so that you canautomatically enjoy the benefits of EFR if supported by your networkoperator. Currently only somenetworks support the EFR codec inaddition to the FR codec. Deactivating/ActivatingThe EFR CodecThe Nokia N3310 fully meet andcomply with all EFR codec andrelevant compatibility specifications.However, as a result of some networksnot yet complying with the latestspecifications you may find itimpossible to make or receive calls, ifthe EFR codec is activated, e.g. whenyou are visiting or roaming in aforeign network.If problems are encountered inmaking a call (with the display of"Check operator services" or anothersimilar message), OR receiving calls,deactivating the EFR codec mayresolve the problem. To deactivate orreactivate the EFR codec follow theinstructions given in the next section.Please note that there is no indicationon the phone as to whether or not theEFR codec is activated or deactivated.
