Section 4A: Important Safety Information 185Important Safety InformationHearing aidsSome digital wireless devices may interfere with some hearing aids.If interference occurs, consult your service provider.PacemakersPacemaker manufacturers recommend that a minimum separation of15.3 centimeters (6 inches) be maintained between a wireless device or phoneand a pacemaker to avoid potential interference with the pacemaker. These recommendations are consistent with the independent research byand recommendations of Wireless Technology Research. To minimize thepotential for interference, persons with pacemakers should: Always keep the device more than 15.3 centimeters (6 inches) fromtheir pacemaker. Not carry the device in a breast pocket. Hold the device to the ear opposite the pacemaker to minimize thepotential for interference. If you suspect interference, switch off your device and move the device away.Using Your Phone With a HearingAid DeviceYour phone has been tested for hearing aid device compatibility. When somewireless phones are used near some hearing devices (hearing aids andcochlear implants), users may detect a buzzing, humming, or whining noise. Some hearing devices are more immune than others to this interferencenoise, and phones also vary in the amount of interference they generate. The wireless telephone industry has developed ratings for some of theirmobile phones, to assist hearing device users in finding phones that maybe compatible with their hearing devices. Not all phones have been rated.Phones that are rated will have the rating on the box. Your 6165i by Nokiahas an M3 rating. The M3/M4 ratings do not guarantee successful interoperation betweenyour phone and hearing aid device. Results will vary depending on the levelof immunity of your hearing device and degree of your hearing loss. The more immune your hearing aid device is, the less likely you are toexperience interference noise from your wireless phone. Hearing aidNote: Phones rated M3 or M4 meet FCC requirements and maygenerate less interference to hearing devices than phonesthat are not labeled. M4 is the better/higher of the tworatings.
