Chapter 10 - System 10-5User dataThe User data card contains your personal infor-mation. You can freely edit the information inthe Name, Company, Job title, Address, Tel, Fax,Tel(GSM), Fax(GSM), E-mail and URL fields.The User data will automatically be included inthe the corresponding fields of the fax coverpage within the Fax application. Likewise, theSMS application uses this information when yousend your own business card.Fax modemThe Nokia 9000il Communicator can be used asa 9600 bps PC fax modem if:• Data calls are supported by the network youare using.• This service is activated for your SIM card.• You have the proper fax driver software (foreither cable or infrared connection) installedon your PC.The fax driver software can be found on theNokia Communications Server diskette thatcomes with the sales package. For more in-formation, see the readme.txt file includedon the diskette, or consult the user's guide ofyour computer on how to install new mo-dems. If you want to receive data calls, yourSIM card also needs a data number. Contactyour network operator for details.To use the communicator as a fax modem via in-frared:Å Make sure you have loaded the Microsoft in-frared drivers onto your PC, and that the soft-ware is runnning.Ç Make sure you have downloaded the fax mo-dem software for infrared from the Nserverdiskette onto your PC.Ç Connect the communicator to the PC via aninfrared link as described in ”To establish aninfrared connection:” on page 10-6.É Wait until the connection is established, andthen press Activate in the Fax modem mainview. This will change the communicator to afax modem. When the communicator is usedas a fax modem, the call status indicatorshows the text MODEM.Ñ To stop using communicator as a fax modem,press Disable.Operations of a modem can be controlled by ATcommands and S-registers. These commandsgive the advanced user an opportunity to controlall the features of the modem. However, it is notalways necessary to enter the AT commandsmanually. Most PC communications applicationshave a user-friendly interface that hides the ATcommands from the user. Should you need toenter the commands manually, consult the doc-umentation of the PC application that you areusing.A list of the common AT commands (based onthe ETSI 07.07 standard) supported by the Nokia9000il Communicator are available as an ASCIItext file on the diskette that came with the salespackage of your communicator.When the communicator is used as a fax modem,its normal communication features are disabled(otherwise, the applications remain functional).If an active PC connection is idle for longer than20 minutes, the fax modem mode is automati-cally disabled to conserve power. However, whenthe communicator is connected to an electricaloutlet (for example, while charging a battery),the time-out is not active.
