Ifthe connection to the PC cannot be created, checkthe settings in the connectivity application. Youmust define the COM port and the PC drive orpath correctly.Note: Making or answering phone calls during aPC connection is not recommended as itmight disrupt the operation.File transferTo select the serial connection type (infrared orcable) and the PC drive used, press Settings inFile transfer application’s main view.To connect to a PC:Å Make sure that the connectivity software(Nserver) has been installed on your PC and isrunning (see ”Connecting to a PC” on page10-6).Ç Make sure the settings are correct for eithercable or infrared, etc.É Press Connect to PC in the File transfer mainview.When you are connected to a PC, there are twosystem windows on the communicator interfacedisplay. The left window shows the folders on thecommunicator (the same folders as seen in theNotes main view) and the right window shows thecontents of the selected PC directory. The cur-rently active window has a thick frame and theselection frame is inside the active window.You can change the active window by pressingthe Change window command button, or the tabkey. In addition, the left and right arrow keys canbe used to activate the left or right window(these keys do not toggle the active window: theleft arrow always activates the communicatorwindow and the right arrow the PC window).The following files can be transferred:Text files — Nokia 9000il Communicator textfiles transferred to a PC can be read andedited in a PC environment with standardWindows or MS-DOS text editors. PC textfiles can be read and edited in the communi-cator, just as well.Graphics files (figures) — When transferringfiles from a PC to the communicator, files withthe extensions JPG and GIF are considered asgraphics files. Graphics files transferred to thecommunicator can be viewed with the imageviewer.Transferring files from thecommunicatorTo transfer files to and from the communicator,you must open both the correct PC directory andcommunicator folder. When the File transferview opens for the first time, all of the commu-nicator’s folders are closed. Files can be copiedto or from an opened folder only. You can opena file by pressing the enter key.After the connection type and PC drive havebeen selected in the settings, and you are con-nected to the PC:If the PC directory shown in the right window isnot the directory to which you want to copy thefile(s), you must change it.Change the PC directory:Å Press the right arrow key to activate the PCwindow.Ç If necessary, press Close to close the currentdirectory.É Press Open to open the correct directory.Ñ Press Change window (or the left arrow key)to activate the communicator window.IMPORTANT! Remember to make backup copiesof all important data.
