the coordinates of your current locationwhen your device is receiving signals fromsatellites.Your device is preconfigured to use theNokia A-GPS service, if no service provider-specific A-GPS settings are available. Theassistance data is retrieved from the NokiaA-GPS service server only when needed. You must have an internet access pointdefined in the device to retrieveassistance data from the Nokia A-GPSservice over a packet data connection.Define an access point for A-GPSSelect Menu > Applications > Locationand Positioning > Positioning server >Access point. Only a packet data internetaccess point can be used for this service.Your device asks for the internet accesspoint when GPS is used for the first time.Hold your device correctlyWhen using the GPS receiver, ensure youdo not cover the antenna with your hand.Establishing a GPS connection may takefrom a couple of seconds to severalminutes. Establishing a GPS connection ina vehicle may take longer. The GPS receiver draws its power from thedevice battery. Using the GPS receiver maydrain the battery faster.Tips on creating a GPS connectionCheck satellite signal statusSelect Menu > Applications > Locationand GPS data > Options > Satellitestatus. If your device has found satellites, a barfor each satellite is shown in the satelliteinfo view. The longer the bar, the strongerthe satellite signal. When your device hasreceived enough data from the satellitesignal to calculate your location, the barcolor changes.Initially your device must receive signalsfrom at least four satellites to be able tocalculate the coordinates of your location. When the initial calculation has beenmade, it may be possible to continuecalculating the coordinates of yourlocation with three satellites. However, the accuracy is generally better whenmore satellites are found. To view the positions of found satellites, select Chg. view.If no satellite signal can be found, considerthe following:• If you are indoors, go outdoors toreceive a better signal.• If you are outdoors, move to a moreopen space.• If the weather conditions are bad, thesignal strength may be affected.• Some vehicles have tinted (athermic)windows, which may block thesatellite signals.© 2010 Nokia.
