53ENOther shooting options2Choosing aperture and shutter speed (M manual mode)In mode M, you choose both the aperture and the shutter speed. Select a shutterspeed of [BULB] or [TIME] for long exposures.1 Rotate the mode dial to M.2 Press the F button (F) and use HI to set aperture and FG tochoose a shutter speed.Shutter speed can be set to values between 1/4000 s and 60 s or to [BULB] or[TIME].3 Take pictures.# CautionsExposure compensation is not available in M mode.Choosing when the exposure endsUse for night landscapes and fireworks. Shutter speeds of [TIME] and [BULB] areavailable in mode M.[TIME] or [BULB] is displayed on the monitor.Bulb photography (BULB): The shutter remains open while the shutter button is pressed.The exposure ends when the shutter button is released.Time photography (TIME): The exposure begins when the shutter button is pressed all theway down. These phenomenaare caused when current is generated in those sections of the image pickup device thatare not normally exposed to light, resulting in a rise in temperature in the image pickupdevice or image pickup device drive circuit. This can also occur when shooting with a highISO setting in a high-temperature environment. To reduce this noise, the camera activatesthe noise reduction function.
