Elements of the handheld interface13Elements of the handheld interfaceLike using a mouse to click elements on a computer screen, using the stylus to tapelements on your handheld screen is the basic action you use to get things done onyour handheld.The first time you start your handheld, the setup instructions appear on the screen.These instructions include a digitizer screen that aligns the internal circuitry ofyour handheld with its touch-sensitive screen so that when you tap an element onthe screen, the handheld can detect exactly which task you want to perform.IMPORTANT Always use the point of the stylus for tapping or for making strokes onthe handheld screen. Never use an actual pen, pencil, or other sharp object to writeon the handheld screen, because this will scratch the screen.With your handheld turned on, you can tap the handheld screen to perform manyoperations. For example, you can do the following:n Open applications.n Select menu commands.n Use the status bar.n Initiate a Find operation to search through applications installed on yourhandheld for specific text. (Find operations do not search through applicationson expansion cards.)n Select options in dialog boxes.n Open the onscreen keyboards.Just as you can drag the mouse to select text or move objects on your computer, youcan drag the stylus to select text.
