123Connecting to external devices using the IEEE1394 connector (PC mode)Chapter 8 Connecting to External Devices (PC mode)Procedures for connectinga hard disk• Use a hard disk with sufficient space for copying.• Format the hard disk for this unit. Note that this deletesall existing data on the hard disk.• Connect this unit to a hard disk with a 1394 cable.• Even if the hard disk is turned off, be sure to makeonly one connection. There must be no multipleconnections (chaining, hub connections, etc.).1 Turn on the hard disk (1394.a SBP2compliant), connect the IEEE1394cable, and then turn on this unit.2 Open the setting menu OTHERFUNCTIONS screen and set the menuoption PC MODE to 1394HOST.PUSH MENU TO RETURN1394 CONTROL1394 CMD SELPC MODEACCESS LEDALARMSAVE LEDCLOCK SETOTHER FUNCTIONSOFFREC_P1394HOSTOFFOFFSAVEUSER FILE3 Press the setting menu button to endmenu operations.4 Press the MODE button to turn on theMCR mode LED and keep the buttonheld down.• This lights the PC mode LED indicating thatthe unit is in the PC mode.5 Select a card slot and copy the data tothe hard disk.6 Turn the POWER switch OFF whencopying completes.• Data cannot be copied from the hard disk to a P2 card.• Use hard disks under the following conditions.• Use a separate power supply (not the 1394 bus) topower the hard disk since this unit cannot supplypower.• Format the hard disk for this unit.• Operate hard disks within its operating specifications(temperature, etc.).• Do not use hard disks in locations that are unstable orexposed to vibration.• Some hard disks may not operate normally.• During formatting and copying, do not disconnectcables, do not remove a P2 card that is involved inany of these activities and do not power off this unitand the hard disk. Any of these operations will requirerebooting the hard disk.• If you first set PC MODE to 1394HOST beforeconnecting a hard disk (1394.a SBP2 compliant),normal operation is not guaranteed. Turn the power offand exit the 1394HOST mode.• A hard disk is a precision instrument whose readand write functions may fail in some operatingenvironments. Please note that Panasonic accepts noliability whatsoever for data loss or other losses eitherdirect or indirect arising from hard disk damage orother defects.• When the hard disk used to copy data from this unit isreplaced with another device (PC, etc.), the data mayno longer work in this unit and the hard disk data mayhave become corrupted.
