Using an answering machineProbleml Your greeting message on the answering machine is toolong. Shorten the message (up to 10 seconds).l The answering machine rings too many times. Set to 1 or2 rings.l Check if the answering machine is turned on andconnected to the fax machine properly (p. 42).l Set the number of rings on the answering machine to 1or 2.l The remote access code on your answering machine isthe same as your fax activation code. Set a differentnumber for features #12 (p. 51) and #41 (p. 54).l You did not program your remote access code in your faxmachine correctly. Program the same code that isprogrammed on the answering machine to the faxmachine with feature #12 (p. 51).l The code may include “#” which is used for certainfeatures provided by telephone companies. Change thecode on the answering machine to another number whichdoes not include “#”. Also change the code of the faxmachine with feature #12 (p. 51).l Your answering machine has run out of recording tape.Rewind the tape to record messages.l You set the answering machine to only give a greetingmessage.Cause & solutionI cannot receive documentsautomatically.I cannot receive voicemessages.I cannot retrieve recorded voicemessages on the answeringmachine from a remotelocation.I pressed the remote accesscode to access the answeringmachine remotely, but the linewas disconnected.Callers complain that theycannot send a document.62OperationsFor fax advantage assistance, call 1-800-435-7329.CopyingProbleml You cannot make a copy during programming. Make thecopy after programming or stop programming.l The glass or rollers are dirty. Clean them (p. 68).l The thermal head is dirty. We recommend smoothpaper such as Hammermill Jet Print for clearer printing.l You may have used paper with a cotton and/or fibercontent that is over 20%, such as letterhead or resumepaper.
