Help54Replacement8.4 Replacing the tonercartridge and the drumunitWhen the display shows the following, replacethe toner cartridge.TONER LOWTONER EMPTYWe recommend you replace the drum unitevery fourth time you replace the tonercartridge. To check the drum life and quality,please print the printer test list (page 62). Toensure that the unit operates properly, werecommend the use of Panasonic tonercartridge (Model No. KX-FA83E) and drumunit (Model No. KX-FA84E). See page 10 foraccessory information.To maintain print quality and machine life, werecommend you to clean slots and openings(page 6) and the inside of the unit (page 60)when replacing the toner cartridge and/or drumunit.Caution:L We cannot be responsible for any damageto the unit or degradation of print qualitywhich may occur from the use of a non-Panasonic toner cartridge and drum unit.L The drum unit contains a photosensitivedrum. Exposing it to light may damage thedrum.Once you have opened the protectionbag:– Do not expose the drum unit to light formore than 5 minutes.– Do not touch or scratch the greendrum surface.– Do not place the drum unit near dust ordirt, or in a high humidity area.– Do not expose the drum unit to directsunlight.L Do not unplug the fax machine. Loss offax documents in memory may occur.L Do not leave the toner cartridge out of theprotection bag for a long time. It willdecrease the toner life.L Do not add toner to the toner cartridge.1 Before opening the protection bag of the newtoner cartridge, shake it vertically more than5 times.2 Remove the new toner cartridge from theprotection bag. Peel off the seal (1) from thetoner cartridge.3 Lift open the front cover (1), holding OPEN(2).4 Tap on the used toner cartridge several timesto allow the remaining toner to fall into theCaution:The fuser unit (3) gets hot.
