Answering System59Listening to MessagesUsing the Base UnitIf the ANSWER ON indicator flashes, newmessages have been recorded. The mailboxicons ( , and ) which have newmessages also flash on the base unit.• If only old messages exist in a mailbox, themailbox icon will be displayed but will not flash.To play back messagesPress the MAILBOX button ([MAILBOX 1],[MAILBOX 2] or [MAILBOX 3]).• The display shows the total number of recordedmessages in the mailbox.• The unit announces “Mailbox (No.)” and the number ofnew messages in the mailbox, and plays back the newmessages.• If old messages exist with new messages in the mailbox, only new messages willbe played back.• When the mailbox has no new messages, the unit announces “Mailbox (No.)”and “No new messages. All message playback”, and plays back all messages in themailbox.When Mailbox 2 or 3 has a password1. Press [MAILBOX 2] or [MAILBOX 3].• “Enter Mailbox password” will be heard.2. Enter the Mailbox password (p. 57).• The unit announces “Mailbox (No.)” and the numberof new messages in the mailbox, and plays back the new messages. If thereare no new messages, all messages in the mailbox will be played back.• During playback, the display shows the message number of the mailbox.• At the end of the last message of the mailbox, “End of final message” is heard. Theunit will announce the remaining recording time if it is less than 3 minutes.• When the mailbox has no messages, the unit announces “Mailbox (No.)” and “Nomessages”.• If a call is being received during playback, you will hear incoming call tones(p. 53). To answer the call, lift the handset or press [DIGITAL SP-PHONE].
