Answering System36Answering systemsettingsNumber of rings before theunit answers a callYou can change the number of times thephone rings “Ring count” before theunit answers calls. You can select 2 to 7rings, or “Toll saver”.The default setting is “4 rings”.“Toll saver”: The unit’s answeringsystem answers at the end of the 2ndring when new messages have beenrecorded, or at the end of the 5th ringwhen there are no new messages. If youcall your phone from outside to listen tonew messages (page 34), you know thatthere are no new messages when thephone rings for the 3rd time. You canthen hang up without being charged forthe call.1 {MENU} i {#}{2}{1}{1}2 {V}/{^}: Select the desired setting.i {SAVE} i {OFF}For voice mail service subscribersTo receive voice mail and use answeringsystem properly, please note thefollowing:L To use the voice mail service providedby your service provider/telephonecompany rather than the unit’sanswering system, turn off theanswering system (page 31).L To use this unit’s answering systemrather than the voice mail serviceprovided by your service provider/telephone company, please contactyour service provider/telephonecompany to deactivate your voice mailservice.If your service provider/telephonecompany cannot do this:– Set this unit’s “Ring count”setting so that this unit’s answeringsystem answers calls before thevoice mail service of your serviceprovider/telephone company does.It is necessary to check the numberof rings required to activate thevoice mail service provided by yourservice provider/telephonecompany before changing thissetting.– Change the number of rings of thevoice mail service so that theanswering system can answer thecall first.
