Using Terminal and Switchpack Modes3-2 7915-A2-GB20-20September 1997Connect the 9-pin end of the terminal cable into a COM port on your PC. Plug theother end into the modular jack on the front panel. If your PC requires a 25-pinconnector to the COM port, see Appendix B,Cable Pin Assignments, for thecorrect cable pinouts.Make sure the terminal parameters on your PC are set to: 9600 baud 8 bit no parity 1 stop bit no flow controlPress Return from your VT100-compatible terminal window to activate the mainmenu for the attached unit. The system runs diagnostics and checks status as itcomes up. After a few moments the Main Menu screen appears on yourVT100-compatible terminal. Menus are described in Chapters 4 and 5 for theG.703 and V.35 units, respectively.Switching Between Terminal and Switchpack ModesUse the following procedure to change the operating mode of the unit to eitherTerminal Mode (the default setting) or Switchpack Mode. Refer to Chapter 4 (forG.703-compatible units) or Chapter 5 (for V.35/V.11-compatible units) forinformation on changing configuration options using either of these modes. ProcedureTo change the mode:1. Power down the unit and remove the enclosure cover, exposing the circuitboard. Use electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection when handling the circuitboard.2. See Appendix C,Switchpacks and Jumpers, to locate switchpack S4 on yourunit’s board.3. Place switch 8 in the correct position for the desired mode.— Switchpack Mode is enabled by moving switch 8 to the ON position.— Terminal Mode is enabled by moving switch 8 to the OFF position.4.If you are enabling Switchpack Mode: You must set the switchpack andjumpers to your desired configuration. Refer to Appendix C,Switchpacks andJumpers.If you are enabling Terminal Mode: The configuration options you had inSwitchpack Mode are carried over into Terminal Mode.5. Power up the board to reset and enable the new configuration.
