13If the descaling procedure is not performedcorrectly, scale residues remain behind in themachine. This causes scale to build up morequickly and may cause permanent and irreparabledamage to the machine.8.0.3 Use the correct descaling agentOnly citric acid-based descalers are suitable fordescaling the SENSEO ® machine. This type ofdescaler descales the machine without damagingit. For the correct amount, see section ‘Descalingprocedure’ below. Each descaling mixture can beused only once. After use, the descaling mixture isno longer active.Philips SENSEO ® has developed a special descaler(HD7012, HD7011, HD7006) for SENSEO ®machines. For more information about thisdescaler, visit our website www.philips.com.B Warning:Never use a descaling agent based on mineralacids such as sulphuric acid, hydrochloric acid,sulphamic acid and acetic acid (e.g. vinegar).These descaling agents will certainly damageyour SENSEO® coffee machine.8.1 Descaling procedureThe descaling procedure consists of 3 cycles:• 1 descaling cycle (approx. 35 minutes)• 2 rinsing cycles (approx. 10 minutes)B Warning:You cannot descale the machine if the Calc-Clean tool is not placed in the coffee spout.8.1.1 Descaling cycle1 Remove the milk container unit from themachine, insert the Calc-Clean tool intothe coffee spout and push down the milkcontainer lever (Fig. 46).2 Place the 1-cup pod holder q with a usedcoffee pod in the coffee machine. Closethe lid and make sure that it is lockedproperly. (Fig. 47)B Warning:Never interrupt the flushing cyclehalfway. If you do, the boiler does notfill itself properly with fresh water.D Note:During the flushing cycle, the machineproduces more noise than during aregular brewing cycle.• The machine switches off automaticallywhen the flushing cycle ends.Now your Philips SENSEO® coffeemachine is ready for use again.8 Descaling8.0.1 When to descale• Descale the SENSEO ® coffee machine asdescribed below when the CALC CLEANindicator goes on. The CALC CLEANindicator goes on after you have brewedapprox. 1000 cups of SENSEO ® black coffeeor 250 cups of SENSEO ® coffee varieties withmilk. You can also descale the SENSEO ® coffeemachine more often in the same way. Youhave to descale the machine at least every 3months. The descaling procedure takes approx.45 minutes (Fig. 45).8.0.2 Why to descaleScale builds up inside the machine during use. It isessential to descale the SENSEO® coffee machinewhen the CALC CLEAN indicator goes on. Yourreasons to descale:• It prolongs the life of your SENSEO ® coffeemachine• It ensures maximum cup volume• It ensures maximum coffee temperature• The machine produces less sound duringbrewing• It prevents malfunctioningENGLISH
