Quicksilver 810 Arvor — System & Component Overview and Operation2612. SteeringYour boat comes equipped with a hydraulic steering system connected to a single rudder. The basicsystem for a single engine boat contains a steering wheel, a hydraulic helm pump, a hydraulic steeringcylinder, hydraulic hoses, and a bypass valve system.OperationWhen turning the steering wheel, the helm pump forces hydraulic fluid through hoses to and from thesteering cylinder which is connected to the tiller arm on the rudder. The cylinder moves the tiller armto either port or starboard, depending upon the direction the steering wheel is turned.Filling and MaintenanceA hydraulic steering system rarely needs to be refilled after the system is bled. However, if you everneed to add fluid to the system, refer to the steering manufacturer’s manual for completeinstructions.Emergency SteeringIn the event of loss of steering, your boat is equipped with an emergency steering tiller arm. To useinsert the manual tiller arm extension onto the rudder shaft. Next, rotate the bypass valve located inthe starboard aft corner access hatch, 90 degrees down. This allows the hydraulic fluid to bypass thehelm and allow manual movement of the rudder.SteeringSteering wheelSteering helmBypass valveEmergency steering tiller arm
