Switching OnPreparation of AC Brushless servo motors and servo-amplifiers requires a littlemore attention than that of DC servo-drives. We recommend that switching onfor the first time is done according to the following instructions.8.1 Switching the Servo-Amplifier On Without a MotorThe first time the amplifier is switched on the enable contacts (connector P12 pins 3 and4), should be open circuit. This will disable the power stages of the amplifier. Theresolver should be connected to the servo-amplifier and some method of reading theencoder output, i.e. a Quin PTS system, should also be connected. The three-motor phases must not be connected to the servo-amplifier.8.2 Checking LEDS and 7 segment displayLED“OVER I” red LED normally offThis LED lights up during a short-circuit between two motor phases or a power stagefault. The state of the LED and the output stage inhibit are latched. To clear a latched fault itis necessary to cycle the power. If the power is cycled, ensure that at least 30 secondsis allowed between switching off and switching back on. If this delay is shortened thenit is possible that the residual power in the smoothing capacitors will hold up theamplifier control circuits and the alarm latch will not be cleared.“Braking” yellow LED normally offThis LED lights up when the braking module operates. This is a non latching alarm andit is quite normal to see this LED illuminate particularly under fast braking conditionswith a heavy load.
