4PREPARATIONCONNECTING POWERYou can power the radio from standardAC power using the supplied powercord, with batteries (not supplied), orfrom your vehicle’s cigarette-lightersocket (using an optional DC adapter).Caution: Connecting the radio to AC orvehicle battery power disconnects anyinternal batteries. However, batteriescan leak chemicals that can corrode anddamage the radio. Always remove thebatteries if you:• will not be using the radio for a weekor more• plan to use only AC or vehicle bat-tery power for a week or moreUsing AC PowerYou can power the radio using the sup-plied AC power cord.Cautions:You must use the suppliedAC power cord. Using anyother power cord coulddamage the radio or the power cord.Contact your local RadioShackstore for power cord replacement.• Always connect the power cord tothe radio before you connect it to ACpower. When you finish, disconnectthe power cord from AC power be-fore you disconnect it from the radio.Follow these steps to connect AC pow-er.1. Be sure POWER is set to OFF, thenset AC/DC on the back of the radioto AC.2. Open the battery compartmentcover, pull out the power cord, thenreplace the cover while routing thecord through the slot on the side ofthe cover.3. Plug the cord into a standard ACoutlet.Caution: Your radio’s power cord has apolarized plug (one blade is wider thanthe other).
