26General Safety InstructionsThe cooker must be installed by a qualifi edelectrician in accordance with the installationinstructions. It should be serviced by a qualifi edservice engineer and only approved spare partsused. Have the installer show you the locationof the cooker control switch. Mark it for easyreference. Always allow the cooker to cool andthen switch off at the mains and before cleaningor carrying out any maintenance work, unlessspecifi ed otherwise in this guide.All parts of the cooker become hot with useand will retain heat even after you havestopped cooking.Take care when touching the hob especially themarked cooking areas. The glass surface of thehob will retain heat after the controls have beenturned off. To minimize the possibility of burns,always be certain that the hob controls are in theOFF position and that the entire glass surface iscool before attempting to clean the hob.Use dry oven gloves when applicable -using damp gloves might result in steamburns when you touch a hot surface. Neveroperate the cooker with wet hands.Do not use a towel or other bulky cloth in placeof a glove. They might catch fi re if they touch ahot surface.Always turn the surface unit controls offbefore removing the pans.Don’t place utensils on the hob surface when itis in use. They may become hot and could causeburns.Clean the hob with caution. If a wet spongeor cloth is used to wipe spills on a hotsurface unit, be careful to avoid steamburns. Some cleansers can producenoxious fumes if applied to a hot surface.Do not use unstable saucepans and position thehandles away from the edge of the hotplate.Babies, toddlers and young children shouldnot be allowed near the cooker at any time.They should never be allowed to sit or standon any part of the appliance. Teach themnot to play with controls or any other part ofthe cooker.Never store anything of interest to children incabinets above a cooker - children climbing onthe cooker to reach them could be seriouslyinjured.Clean only parts listed in this guide.In the interests of hygiene and safety the cookershould be kept clean at all times as a build up infats and other food stuff could result in a fi re.We recommend that you avoid wiping anysurface unit areas until they have cooledand the indicator light has gone off. Sugarspills are the exception to this. Please see‘Cleaning your cooker’. When the hob iscool, use only the recommended cleaningcream to clean the hob.To avoid possible damage to the cookingsurface, do not apply the cleaning cream to theglass surface when it is hot. Read and follow allinstructions and warnings on the cleaning creamlabels. After cleaning, use a dry cloth or papertowel to remove any cleaning cream residue.Avoid heating an empty pan. Doing so maydamage the hob and the pan.Always keep combustible wall coverings orcurtains etc. a safe distance away from yourcooker.Do not place or store items on top of theglass hob surface when it is not in use.Do not spray aerosols in the vicinity of thecooker while it is in on.Do not store or use combustible materials,or fl ammable liquids in the vicinity of thisappliance.Do not use water on grease fi res. Never pick upa fl aming pan. Turn the controls off. Smother afl aming pan on a surface unit by covering thepan completely with a well fi tting lid or bakingtray. If available use a multipurpose dry chemicalor foam-type fi re extinguisher.Never leave the hob unattended at highheat settings. Pans boiling over can causesmoking and greasy spills may catch on fi re.Never wear loose-fi tting or hanging clothes whileusing the appliance. Be careful when reachingfor items stored in cabinets over the hob.Flammable material could be ignited if broughtin contact with a hot surface unit and may causesevere burns.Take great care when heating fats and oils,as they will ignite if they get too hot.
