17.1 Navtex overviewThe Navtex features enable you to view marine safety information,including weather forecasts and marine safety warnings.With a suitable Navtex receiver connected to your multifunctiondisplay, you can view marine safety information, including weatherforecasts and marine warnings.Major areas of NAVTEX coverage include the Mediterranean Sea,The North Sea, coastal areas around Japan, and areas around theNorth American continent.Incoming Navtex Message AlertsWhenever a warning is received by the Navtex receiver, an alertis displayed on your multifunction display for any category ofinformation that you have set up. The alert contains the messagedetails, and can be erased or saved.Your multifunction display stores up to 100 messages. Oncecapacity is reached, the oldest messages are automatically deletedto allow for new incoming messages.Navtex Message Alert CategoriesYou can configure your multifunction display to show alerts for arange of different categories of information, including warnings,reports and services. Examples include navigational warnings, icereports, search and rescue information, metereological warnings,and special services.These categories are set up using the Navtex Message List.Selecting the appropriate categories from the list ensures that youonly receive warnings and information that are relevant to you.17.2 Navtex setupIn order to receive Navtex alerts on your multifunction display, youmust connect a Navtex receiver and configure the NMEA options onyour multifunction display.Before you are able to receive and view Navtex safety messages onyour multifunction display, you must:• Connect a suitable Navtex receiver to your multifunction display.• Specify the appropriate baud rate for the relevant NMEA port onyour multifunction display (MENU > System Setup > SystemIntegration).
