Solving Problems7.2Solving General PrintingProblemsFor problems with the operation of your printer, refer to thetable for suggested solutions.Problem Possible Cause SolutionThe printerdoes notprint.The printer is notreceiving power.Check the power cord connections.Check the power switch and thepower source.The printer is notselected as thedefault printer.Select Samsung CLP-600 Seriesas your default printer.Check the printer forthe following:After locating the problem, clear it. Ifa printer system error occurs, contactyour service representative.• The printer coveris not closed.• Close the printer cover.• Paper is jammed. • Clear the paper jam. See 7.4.• No paper isloaded.• Load paper. See 2.4.• The tonercartridge is notinstalled.• Install the toner cartridge. See 2.2.The printer may bein manual feedmode and out ofpaper.Check the message on theSmartPanel program window or thecontrol panel display (CLP-600Nonly), add paper to the Multi-purposeTray, and press the On Line/Continue button on the printer’scontrol panel.The connection cablebetween thecomputer and theprinter is notconnected properly.Disconnect the printer cable andreconnect it.The connection cablebetween thecomputer and theprinter is defective.If possible, attach the cable toanother computer that is workingproperly and try to print a document.You can also try using a differentprinter cable.The port setting isincorrect.Check the Windows printer setting tomake sure that the print job is sent tothe correct port. If the computer hasmore than one port, make sure thatthe printer is attached to the correctone.The printerdoes notprint.(continued)The printer may beconfiguredincorrectly.Check the printer properties toensure that all of the print settingsare correct.The printer drivermay be incorrectlyinstalled.Reinstall the printer driver; see theSoftware section. Try printing ademo page.The printer ismalfunctioning.Check the display message on thecontrol panel to determine if theprinter is indicating a system error.The printerselects printmaterialsfrom thewrong papersource.The paper sourceselection in theprinter propertiesmay be incorrect.For many software applications, thepaper source selection is found underthe Paper tab within the printerproperties window. Select the correctpaper source. For details, see theSoftware section.Paper doesnot feed intothe printer.Paper has beenloaded incorrectly.Remove paper from the tray andreload it correctly.Check that the paper size adjustersare set correctly.There is too muchpaper in the papertray.Remove excess paper from the tray.The paper is toothick.Use only paper that meets printerspecifications.A print job isextremelyslow.The job may be verycomplex.Reduce the complexity of the page(s)or try adjusting the print qualitysettings.Adjust the print quality settings, suchas reducing the resolution. If youhave set the resolution to Best,change it to Normal or Draft.See the Software section.Change the port setting to the USB ornetwork port to improve print speed.Your printer prints A4-sized paper at20 ppm and letter-sized paper at 21ppm.If using Windows98SE/Me, theSpooling Settingmay be setincorrectly.From the Start menu, chooseSettings and Printers. Right-clickthe Samsung CLP-600 Seriesprinter icon, choose Properties, clickthe Details tab, and then choose theSpool Settings button. Select thedesired spool setting.Problem Possible Cause Solution
