Trythe Prescan function to see if that works. Trylowering the scan resolution rate.• Check that the USB cable is connectedproperly.• Make sure that the USB cable is notdefective. Switch the cable with a knowngood cable. If necessary, replace the cable.• Check that the scanner is configuredcorrectly. Check scan setting in theSmarThru Configuration or the applicationyou want to use to make certain that thescanner job is being sent to the correct port.The unit scans veryslowly.• Check if the machine is printing receiveddata. If so, scan the document after thereceived data has been printed.• Graphics are scanned more slowly than text.• Communication speed slows in scan modebecause of the large amount of memoryrequired to analyze and reproduce thescanned image. Set your computer to theECP printer mode through BIOS setting. Itwill help to increase the speed. For detailsabout how to set BIOS, refer to yourcomputer user’s guide.Message appears onyour computerscreen:• “Device can't beset to the H/Wmode you want.”• “Port is being usedby anotherprogram.”• “Port is Disabled.• “Scanner is busyreceiving orprinting data.When the currentjob is completed,try again.”• “Invalid handle.”• “Scanning hasfailed.”• There may be a copying or printing job inprogress. When that job is complete, try yourjob again.• The Selected port is currently being used.Restart your computer and try again.• The printer cable may be improperlyconnected or the power may be off.• The scanner driver is not installed or theoperating environment is not set up properly.• Ensure that the machine is properlyconnected and the power is on, Then restartyour computer.• The USB cable may be improperlyconnected or the power may be off.CONDITION SUGGESTED SOLUTIONSI cannot use theSamsung ScanManager.Check your operating system. Print a Phone Book list,referring to page 58.The original does notfeed into themachine.• Make sure that the paper is not wrinkled andyou are putting it in correctly. Check that theoriginal is the right size, not too thick or thin• Make sure that the DADF (or ADF) is firmlyclosed.• The ADF rubber pad may need to bereplaced. See page 69.Faxes are notreceivedautomatically.• The receiving mode should be set to Fax.• Make sure that there is paper in the tray.• Check to see if the display shows any errormessage. If it does, clear the problem.The machine doesnot send.• Make sure that the original is loaded in theDADF (or ADF) or on the scanner glass.• Sending should show up on the display.• Check the fax machine you are sending to,to see if it can receive your fax.The incoming fax hasblank spaces or is ofpoor-quality.• The fax machine sending you the fax maybe faulty.• A noisy phone line can cause line errors.• Check your machine by making a copy.• The toner cartridge may be empty.
