14.23 The machine doesnot scan.• Check if a document is loaded into themachine.• Check if your machine is connected to thecomputer. Make sure it is connected properly ifan I/O error is reported while scanning.• Check if the port is not busy. Since functionalcomponents of MFP (printer and scanner)share the same I/O interface (port), thesituation of simultaneous access for different“consumer” applications to the same port ispossible. To avoid possible conflicts, only oneof them is allowed to gain control over thedevice at a time. The other “consumer” willencounter “device busy” response. Thisusually happens while starting the scanprocedure, and an appropriate message boxwill be displayed. To identify the source of the problem, youshould open ports configuration and select theport assigned to your scanner. port’s symbol /dev/mfp0 corresponds to LP:0 designationdisplayed in the scanners’ options, /dev/mfp1relates to LP:1 and so on. USB ports start at /dev/mfp4, so scanner on USB:0 relates to /dev/mfp4 respectively and so forthsequentially. In the Selected port pane you cansee if the port is occupied by some otherapplication. If this is the case, you should waitfor completion of the current job or you shouldpress the Release port button, if you are surethat the port owner is not functioning properly.I cannot scan viaGimp Front-end.• Check if Gimp Front-end has “Xsane: Devicedialog.” on the “Acquire” menu. If not, youshould install the Xsane plug-in for Gimp onyour computer. You can find Xsane plug-inpackage for Gimp on downloaded Linuxpackage (from Samsung website) or on theGimp home page. For detailed information, refer to Help for Linux or Gimp Front-endapplication.If you wish to use an other kinds of scanapplications, refer to the Help for application.I encounter error“Cannot open portdevice file” whenprinting a document. Please avoid changing print job parameters (viaLPR GUI, for example) while a print job is inprogress. Known versions of CUPS server cut offthe print jobs whenever print options are changedand then try to restart the job from the beginning.Since Unified Linux Driver locks port whileprinting, the abrupt termination of the driverkeeps the port locked and therefore unavailablefor subsequent print jobs. If this situationoccurred, try to release the port.Problem Possible Cause and SolutionSome color imagescome out all black. This is a known bug in Ghostscript (until GNUGhostscript version 7.05) when the base colorspace of the document is indexed color spaceand it is converted through CIE color space.Because Postscript uses CIE color space forColor Matching System, you should upgradeGhostscript on your system to at least GNUGhostscript version 7.06 or later.
