Part 1: Site Survey and Overview of DECT Systems19In Figure 1.6 an installation with two Repeaters and two Base Stations is shown. Anactive handset can move from Area 1 to Area 4 without losing its call since handoveris made from the Base Station in Area 1 to the Repeater in Area 2, then to the Re-peater in Area 3 and then to the Base Station in Area 4.This means that the installation gives a wider spread of the area of traffic channelswithout having to add extra channels.Repeaters in Multi-Cell SystemsWhen a multi-cell system is installed, two considerations determine the number ofBase Stations:1. Establishment of necessary radio coverage.2. The number of traffic channels must be available to secure good perform-ance of DECT traffic. To fulfil point 2, under normal circumstances, one Base Station should be installedper 10 handsets. In a busy office the system will be able to handle traffic of 0.15E perhandset registration, corresponding to an average of nine minutes per hour (ap-proximately five calls per hour) with a blocking value of 1%Base Station Area 1Repeater Area 2Repeater Area 3Base Station Area 4Figure 1.6
