34 Section 5: Entering TextSection 5Selecting Text Input ModeThere are four different character input methods available.They are:• Block Recognizer• Keyboard• Letter Recognizer• TranscriberEach of these methods allow you to input alphanumericcharacters and symbols into the i830. In addition to the inputmethods, there is Word Completion and other optionsassociated with the input selected.To access the Input settings:1. Tap Start located in the upper left corner of the screen.2. Tap Settings.3. Tap the Personal tab.4. Tap the Input icon.Block RecognizerThis input method uses the traditional writing area box split inthe middle. The left side is used to write letters and the rightside is for number entry. Symbols and common functions arelocated in other smaller boxes located to the right of the writingbox area. There are no options associated with this type ofinput method.Keyboard35Section 5: Entering TextSection 5KeyboardThis input method displays an on‐screen keyboard that can beused to input characters by tapping the screen using the stylus.The keyboard entry method has the following options:• Large Keys• Small Keys• Use gestures for the following keys and remove them from the key-board.To select larger or smaller keys, simply tap the button next tothe desired option.The gestures feature allows you to replace keys used on thekeyboard for space, backspace, shift+key, and enter by drawinga gesture or motion. The large key option must be selected forthis option to be available.Letter RecognizerThis option allows you to enter text using your ownhandwriting. The screen is divided into three different areas.A capitol letter area, small letter area, and a number area.Characters are entered by printing letters in each area. Thecharacter is then analyzed and typed on the screenautomatically. The following options are associated with thismethod:• Quick stroke• Right to left crossbar• Allow accented characters
