7.10 TroubleshootingSymptomYou cannot poll anothermachine.Cause and Solution• The fax machine you are polling may be using a pollcode.The incoming fax has blankspaces or you received apoor-quality copy.• The machine sending you the fax may be faulty.• The fax machine sending you a fax may have a dirty scanglass.• A noisy phone line can cause line errors.• Check your machine by making a copy.• The print cartridge may be empty.Are some of the words onthe incoming fax stretched?• The machine sending you the fax had a temporarydocument jam.There are lines on the copiesor documents you send.• Check your scan glass for marks, and clean it.See page 6.14.The machine dials a number,but fails to make aconnection with another faxmachine.• The other fax machine may be turned off, out of paper,or cannot answer incoming calls. Speak with the othermachine operator and ask them to sort out the problem.You cannot store a documentin the memory.• There may not be enough memory to store thedocument. If the display shows a ‘MEMORY FULL’message, delete any documents you no longer need fromthe memory, then restore the document.Blank areas appear at thebottom of each page or onother pages, with only asmall strip of text printed atthe top.• You may have chosen the wrong paper settings in theuser option setting. See page 4.34 to choose a properpaper size.
