Phone Basics 22Phone BasicsTTY Use With HandsetA TTY (also known as a TDD or Text Telephone), is a telecommunications devicethat allows people who are deaf, hard of hearing, or have speech or languagedisabilities to communicate by telephone.Your phone is compatible with select TTY devices. Please check with themanufacturer of your TTY device to ensure that it supports digital wirelesstransmission. Your phone and TTY device will connect via a special cable thatplugs into your phone's headset jack. If this cable was not provided with your TTYdevice, contact your TTY device manufacturer to purchase the connector cable.To turn TTY Mode on or off:1. Press for Menu.2. Press for Settings.3. Press for More.4. Press for Accessibility.5. Press for TTY. (A brief explanation of TTY will display.)6. Press again to continue.7. Press the navigation key up or down to select TTY Off or TTY On andpress to save and exit.Note: In TTY Mode when your headset is plugged in, your phone will display theTTY access icon. If TTY mode is enabled, the headset cannot be used.IMPORTANT 911 Emergency Calling: We recommend that TTY users makeemergency calls by other means, including Telecommunications Relay Services(TRS), analog cellular, and land line communications. Wireless TTY calls to 911may be corrupted when received by public safety answering points (PSAPs)rendering some communications unintelligible. The problem encountered appearsrelated to TTY equipment or software used by PSAPs. This matter has beenbrought to the attention of the FCC, and the wireless industry and PSAP communityare currently working to resolve it.
