However, we suggest that you lookthrough this section in order to gain an overview ofthe functions of the CD-RW5000.2.1 Front panel[1] POWER switchPress this switch to turn the power on and off to theCD-RW5000.PLAUGGABLE EQUIPMENT, that the socket-outlet shall be installed near the equipment and shallbe easily accessible.[2] PHONES jack and level controlUse this jack to connect a standard pair of stereoheadphones and the level control to control the levelof the signal output from them.[3] Disc trayWhen inserting discs into the tray for recording orplayback, make sure that the label side of the disc isuppermost.Always make sure that the disc is centered in therecess in the disc tray before closing the tray.[4] OPEN/CLOSE keyUse this key to open and close the disc tray.[5] DisplayThe display provides information regarding theinserted disc (disc type, time available for recording,track number, etc.), and metering.[6] DISPLAY keyUse this key to cycle through the different displaymodes available, as described in 3.1, "Displaymodes".[7] AUTO/MANUAL keyWhen the recording source is digital, this key allowsfor the synchronization of the recorded CD with thedigital track divisions recorded on a source CD, aDAT recorder, etc. See 4.3, "Automatic track divi-sion" for details.When the recording source is analog or digitalAES/EBU format, this key allows automatic trackincrementation to be performed when a period ofsilence of three seconds or more is detected in thesignal. See 4.2, "Recording from digital sources" fordetails.In both digital and analog input modes, you canincrement track numbers manually by pressing eitherthe RECORD key [17] or [45], or the TRACKINCR [39] key while recording is taking place.[8] SOURCE keyUse this key to choose between digital and analogsources when recording a disc. If a digital source isselected, the source will be the one selected with theDIGITAL INPUT key.There are two choices for the analog inputs: unbal-anced inputs, which is briefly shown asUNBAL onthe large 7-segment characters andANALOG on thesmaller characters of the display, and the balancedinputs, which are shown asBAL on the 7-segmentandANALOG BAL on the smaller displaycharacters.[9] DIGITAL INPUT keyUse this key to select the input source when record-ing a disc. Use this key in conjunction with theSOURCE key. The choices available are:AES/EBU,COAXIAL andOPTICAL when theSOURCE key is set toDIGITAL.When the SOURCE key is set to either of the twoanalog sources, pressing this DIGITAL INPUT keybriefly will display the last selected input source forthe digital inputs, without actually selecting thesource.[10] INPUT level controlsThese controls affect the level of the analog inputsignal.When these controls are at the two o’clock position,the signal is at nominal level (neither cut or boosted).[11] FINALIZE keyThis key is used after all tracks on a recordable dischave been recorded. When this key is pressed, fol-lowed within 2 seconds by the RECORD key, thefinal table of contents is written on the disc, whichcan then be played on a normal CD player (until thiskey is pressed, and the table of contents is written,CDs cannot be played on a normal CD player).After the table of contents has been written, the discceases to be a recordable disc. In the case of a CD-Rdisc, no further action except playback can be per-formed on the disc. In the case of a CD-RW disc, thewhole disc can be erased, and reused for recording.See 4.6, "Finalizing discs" for details.
