1 - Introduction8 TASCAM CD-RW50001.5 Use of CD-R and CD-RW discsThe Compact Disc medium is a robust medium, andthe discs can survive a good deal of physical abuse. However, there are precautions that you should takewhen handling CD-R and CD-RW discs which aredifferent to those you should take when handlingordinary CDs.Avoid touching the recording (non-label) side of adisc on which you will be recording. Recording on adisc requires a cleaner surface than playing back, andfingerprints, grease, etc. can cause errors in therecording process.CD-R and CD-RW discs are more sensitive to theeffects of heat than ordinary CDs. It is important thatthey are not stored in a location where direct sunlightwill fall on them, and which is away from sources ofheat such as radiators or heat-generating electricaldevices.Always store CD-R and CD-RW discs in their “jewelcases” to avoid dirt and dust accumulating on theirsurfaces. When labeling CD-R and CD-RW discs, always usea soft felt-tipped pen to write the information. Neveruse a ball-point or hard-tipped pen, as this may causedamage to the recorded side.Dirty discs may be cleaned using a soft dry clothand/or a commercial CD cleaning fluid or ethyl alco-hol. Do not use thinner, gasoline, benzene or LPcleaning fluid, as these will damage the disc.If you are in any doubt as to the care and handling ofa CD-R or CD-RW disc, read the precautions sup-plied with the disc, or contact the disc manufacturerdirectly.
