30 TASCAM DR-40X4 – RecordingSimultaneously recording two files atdifferent input levels (DUAL REC)This unit can simultaneously make two recordings at differentinput levels (dual recording). For example, when recordingwith mics, you can record the main recording with theinput level set as high as possible while recording a backuprecording with the input level set slightly lower to preventthe sound from distorting and record both at the same time. The main and backup recordings will each be saved as aseparate file. The input level setting will apply to the main recording (see"Preparing the recording inputs" on page 24 and "Adjustingthe input level" on page 25).Since the input level of the backup recording is set relativeto the input level of the main recording, set the input level ofthe main recording first. Then, set the DUAL LVL item for thebackup recording.NOTEDual recording and overdubbing cannot be used simul-taneously. In this mode, you cannot record the soundwith the effect applied, but you can use the effect formonitoring.Enabling dual recording1. Press the REC MODE button to open the REC MODEscreen.2.
