TASCAM TA-1VP 195 – OperationLive or mixdown? The TA-1VP functions equally well processing audio duringits original performance or later during the mixdownprocess. However, if you have the choice (which youtypically will for everything but a live stage performance),we strongly recommend using the TA-1VP as an inserteffect during mixdown. This will allow you to experimentwith various settings while auditioning their effect in thecontext of the entire mix.If you do choose to work this way, and plan to use theMicrophone Modeling function, it is important thatyou document mic data for each recorded track. Thisshould include the mic used, whether a low-cut filter wasengaged, as well as the average distance between themic and the signal source (singer, instrument, etc.). Thisinformation will be required to properly set the SourceMic controls during the mix.Patching the TA-1VP into yoursystemDepending on your specific setup, there are a number ofways to patch the TA-1VP into your system. Insertthe TRS plug into the mixer’s insert jack and insert theappropriate TS jacks into the TA-1VP’s LINE IN and MAINLINE OUT jacks (i.e., the mixer’s insert send to TA-1VPLINE IN and the mixer’s insert return to TA-1VP MAINLINE OUT.)NOTEIn most cases, a mixer’s insert send will appear on the tipof the TRS plug and the insert return on the ring. However, you should consult your mixer’s manual to confirm thatthis is indeed the case for your mixer. In this configuration, you can use your mixer’s channeltrim to set the input level of the TA-1VP, or use the inputlevel adjustment on the TA-1VP.NOTEIf you will be using the TA-1VP’s Double Tracking functionin stereo mode, patch the TA-1VP’s DBOULE TRACK LINEOUT to a separate channel on your mixer. As an insert effect using two mixerchannelsCHANNEL 1TA-1VP MIXERINPUTDIRECT OUTLINE INMAIN LINE OUTDOUBLE TRACKLINE OUTCHANNEL 2 CHANNEL 3INPUTDIRECT OUTOPTIONALINPUTDIRECT OUTAS ANINSERTEFFECTUSINGTWOMIXERCHANNELSSOURCE AUDIOFor this configuration, your mixer must provide directchannel outputs.Patch the direct output of the channel whose signalyou want to process to the LINE IN of the TA-1VP.
