Front AxlePage 34R-380 DC SystemMR-380-03REPLACE FRONT WHEELBEARINGS1: Set the park brake.2: Disconnect the batteries.3: Raise the front of the vehicle and support withjack stands.4: Remove the tire/wheel assembly from the hub.Refer to the Tire/Wheel section for informationregarding removing the tire/wheel assembly.5: Remove the hub dust cap, cotter pin, and spindlenut.6: Remove the hub from the steering knuckle.Note: For a front disc brake option you mustremove the brake body before removingthe hub. Refer to the Brakes section forinformation regarding the removal of thebrake body.7: Thoroughly clean all grease from the inside of thehub and the bearings.8: Inspect and replace the races and bearings as aset.Note: It is recommended to replace all fourbearings and races in the left and rightwheels as a set.9: Assemble in reverse order, using new greaseseals.a. Pack inner and outer bearings with grease.b. Adjust the bearing preload per specifications inthe Adjust Front Wheel Bearing procedure.d. Install a new cotter pin.10: Install the hub dust cap.11: Reinstall the brake body. Refer to the Brakessection for information regarding the installationof the brake body.12: Reinstall the tire/wheel. Refer to the Tire/Wheelsection for information regarding installing thetire/wheel assembly13: Lower the vehicle.14: Reconnect the batteries.15: Remove the blocks from behind the wheels.16: Release the park brake and test drive.This section is one section of a complete servicemanual. Refer to Tiresand Wheels section for information regardingremoving the tire/wheel assembly.3: Remove the hub bearing cap, cotter pin and nut,then remove the hub from the steering knuckle.Note: For a front disc brake option you mustremove the brake body before removingthe hub. Refer to the Brakes section forinformation regarding the removal of thebrake body. Do not remove the hydraulicbrake line from the brake body. If the brakeline is removed then it will be necessary tobleed the brakes.4: Remove the drag link and/or tie rod from thesteering knuckle. Refer to Replace the Ball Joints,Tie Rods, Drag Link in this section for informationregarding removal of the drag link or tie rod.5: While supporting the knuckle, remove the kingpin and thrust bearing.6: Remove the knuckle from the axle.7: Thoroughly clean and/or replace all bearings,nuts, washers, and bushings.Note: Both the left and right side bushings andthrust bearings should be replaced as a set.8: Assemble in reverse order.a. Pack the thrust bearing with grease.b. Tighten the king pin nut until there is 0.156 to0.172 inch clearance between the knuckle andthrust bearing.c. Refer to Replace Front Wheel Bearings forinformation regarding proper tightening of thespindle nutd. Install new cotter pins.9: Realign the wheels. Refer to the Steering sectionfor information regarding realignment of the frontwheels.10: Lower the vehicle.11: Reconnect the batteries.12: Remove the blocks from behind the wheels.13: Release the park brake and test drive.This section is one section of a complete servicemanual.
